TRAINEE, RESEARCHER OR EXCHANGE STUDENTS PROGRAM

Temporary Visas Type I (VITEM-I) are issued to foreign citizens entering Brazil as:

A – researchers, scientists or professors who come to Brazil as members of a cultural, technological or scientific mission, provided that no income is derived from a Brazilian source, (payment of daily travel allowances and scholarships excepted)

B – interns provided always that the internship is practical part of vocational or university studies

C – amateur athletes under 21 years of age engaged in intensive sports training in Brazilian institutions without remuneration for competing

D – technicians, service providers, volunteers, specialists, scientist, researchers who will work under an international cooperation agreement recognized by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Relations

E – unpaid trainees in the operation or maintenance of equipment or machines made in Brazil

F – exchange students.


GENERAL DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS (ANY CATEGORY ABOVE)

A – Passport valid for a minimum of six months

B –One recent 3 cm x 4 cm photograph, front view

C– One visa application form (click here to fill in the form). Please disregard the error message about the website’s security certificate. Click at “Continue to this website (not recommended)”.

Fill in the form. . Click "SEND" to receive your processing number and receipt. . Print the receipt. . Attach your photograph . Sign the receipt. . Bring the duly completed and signed receipt, the original documentation, passport and payment.

The visa application form filled out online is valid for one month only. If you apply after that period, it will be necessary to fill out another form.

D – Certificate of birth issued by Dutch municipal authorities (international model)

E – Proof of holding means sufficient to support himself in Brazil (minimum € 665,00 per month) or letter of the institution in Brazil taking responsibility for the applicant’s maintenance and return trip to Brazil

F – Certificate of residence (international model) issued by the Dutch authorities stating that the applicant has been residing in the Netherlands for the past twelve months.

G – Certificate of good behaviour (international model) issued by the Dutch Ministry of Justice within 90 days from delivery to the Consulate. Issuance by Dutch authorities may take up to 4 weeks.


PLEASE NOTE THAT Specific documentation requirements are stated on the reverse.

On a reciprocity basis, first entry into Brazil must be made within 90 days after the visa has been issued for passport holders of the following countries: Angola, Bahrain, Cambodia, China, Gabon, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Laos, Lybia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Paraguay, Philippines, Portugal, Thailand, Tunisia and Switzerland.

Maximum duration of the VITEM-I visa is two years for applicants under category A and D (renewable), one year (non-renewable) under categories B,C and F and 60 days (renewable for another 60 days) under category E above. Extensions (whenever possible) can be applied for at the Department of Federal Police, in Brazil, at least 30 days before the visa expires.

VITEM-I holders who are to stay in Brazil for more than 90 days MUST register in person at the Department of Federal Police in Brazil within the first 30 days after their arrival (Keep a copy of your visa application form duly stamped by the Consulate-General for presentation to the immigration authorities in Brazil, if required).

All Brazilian documents must be originals or copies notarized in Brazil.

CONSULAR FEES

A charge of € 54,00 is applicable per visa. An additional processing fee of € 117,00 is charged to visa applications presented by U.S. citizens in reciprocity for identical fee paid by Brazilian citizens who apply for a visa to the United States of America. British subjects will be subject to a € 139,50 processing fee when the validity of their visas is over 180 days, on a reciprocity basis. All applications not submitted by the passport holder in person are subject to a handling fee of € 18,00 in addition to any other applicable fee. All fees are payable either by debit card (PIN) or in cash. Credit cards and cheques are not accepted.
